Forty-second president, democrat Bill Clinton had an affair with Monica Lewinski from late 1995 to early 1997. This scandal came about after Paula Jones filed a lawsuit on Clinton for sexual harassment. After others working with Clinton found Lewinski to be spending excess time with the president, she was transferred to work in the Pentagon where she confided with Linda Tripp about her relations with the president. Tripp began to spy on Lewinski by recording her telephone calls with the president and then ultimately revealed them in court to help ignite the case. Later evidence - say, a blue dress - helped to confirm the affair. Because of this scandal, and his actions in court, Clinton was impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice by the House in 1998; however, he was acquitted by the Senate and, thus, allowed to stay in office.
