eBay: Where you can even sell a piece of coal

Technology

If any company has redefined and facilitated the exchange of junk more than any other it would have to be eBay. The online bidding service allows consumers to buy and sell any item they see fit, resulting in millions of happy followers who have found just what they were looking for. eBay was founded by Pierre Omidyar in 1995 and has grown to a multi-billion dollar business. In 1998, Omidyar gave control of the company over to Meg Whitman. eBay has not existed without hangups however. The site constantly monitors complaints ranging from exorbitant markups to fraudulent purchasing and shipping claims. The key to eBay’s success lies solely in the business model. The site provides a service in which anyone from any location can access a product which they would otherwise not be able to obtain. The seller also benefits. Those with items to sell can set their own price based on demand and uniqueness.
